Your Action is Needed!
See below a message from RPCVs of NENY Advocacy Coordinators, Sue Senecah and Anthony Swingruber. If you have any questions, email rpcvneny@gmail.com
Dear NE NY RPCVs,
On Dec. 9th, Congress was expected to support a continuing resolution to finish work on the Fiscal Year 2021 spending package by December 18th (a week-long extension).
That gives us the next 5-7 days to convince Congress to reject the Senate proposal to cut $50 million from Peace Corps and instead, support the House recommendation of level funding ($410.5 million).
Here are three very important ways by which you can help!
-
Letters to the Editor: The expected extension means there remains a small window (no later than Friday) to submit letters to the editor of local newspapers that reference lawmakers in urging their support. This morning a second letter in Vermont urged Senator Patrick Leahy to support stable Peace Corps funding. Attached you will find three sample letter to editor templates of various length and approach that you can use as a guide and share with other members of your state/regional advocacy teams. THANK YOU!
-
Keep Sending Those Messages: Over two thousand messages have been sent to Congress in the past week, and for some of the key lawmakers involved in the final decisions, those numbers are starting to add up!! But we still need more. Keep making phone calls or submitting messages using this link: https://advocacy.peacecorpsconnect.org/email-congress#/64 Let's send 5,000 messages nationwide to Congress in the next week!!

Direct Contact! If you have personal relationships with your representative or Senators Schumer or Gillibrand, please speak directly to them! Attached is a copy of last week's House Dear Colleague letter that you can share if useful.
Thank you! |
